We recently heard that Sony and Funimation are in the process of purchasing Crunchyroll. Given that Nintendo did so shortly after launch, it’s surprising that services like Netflix and a Funimation Switch app haven’t come sooner.

The Nintendo Switch may finally get an app so users can watch anime. Funimation originally stated it was looking into developing an app for the console way back in 2018, though nothing came of it. The company posted a brief video to its Twitter account showing the hybrid Nintendo console in a playful manner. Overall, the Nintendo Switch app is a great improvement and will be a welcome improvement to the Funimation app lineup.A Funimation Switch app might be in the works. I'm not sure if it's just me or do the streams seem to be limited to 720p? My switch is reporting downloading speeds ~60Mbps+, so that shouldn't be the issue. I'm assuming that this is because of some limitation/guideline with the Switch? One last thing about the video player. The first looks like it was stylized specifically for the Funimation app while the second is more of a generic Nintendo Switch video player (If I were to guess, we can expect to see this one on other platforms).

I'm sure that this is small bug since the other apps + website will ask you if you are okay with switching before continuing. Going onto the video player, one thing I noticed is that marathon streams automatically switch to the Japanese version if the next episode isn't available with an English Dub. From a general app perspective, it would be nice to see smooth transitions between categories instead of the current sharp ones, which can be jarring when first using the app. A suggestion to improve it would be to tell the user when new episodes come out either on the show page, or by separating the "This Season" shows into different categories depending on the day of week for release. The "This Season" page is a great way to keep up with new shows each season. Unlike on the other apps, the queue loads very quickly in relation to the rest of the site, which is fantastic.

The schedule is a more than welcome addition! It has always been available on the website, but this one has far more polish and is far more accessible to the standard user. Download the ECS Meeting App from the Apple App Store or Android Market. The app works well! I really like how everything is laid out in a style that scream Funimation while still being easy and intuitive to navigate.
